Pre and Post Anesthesia Instructions
Office-based Anesthesia for Dentistry
The most recent advancements in anesthesia equipment and technique 4 has allowed the art of dental anesthesia in the office to become a safe and rewarding experience for both the dentist and the patient.
The use of intravenous anesthetics is easily administered and can be adjusted for different levels of sedation. This allows the patient to complete their dental treatment in a single visit.
What is a Dental Anesthesiologist?
A Dental Anesthesiologist is a trained dentist in the specialized field of general anesthesia.
This extensive training consists of a two year hospital-based general anesthesia residency, covering a variety of medical and dental cases in a hospital, outpatient surgery center, and dental offices.
The training also consist of pediatric, orthopedic, ENT, critical care and many
more fields in medical anesthesia.
This broad scope of intensive training received by Dr. Khalaf will provide the dentist and patient with a safe and secure setting.
What kind of patients need Anesthesia?
These patients are usually in pain, uncooperative, have an extensive dental treatment plan, or have had a negative dental experience in the past.
The Physically and Medically compromised:
These patients might have medical conditions such as, but not exclusive to, cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder, heart disease or asthma.
Due to their conditions, stress from a normal dental experience can exacerbate their medical condition.
While the dentist is performing multiple dental procedures in a safe and stress free outpatient surgical environment, Dr. Khalaf will be managing the patient’s medical condition while under sedation.
The Dental Phobic Population:
Unfortunately, these patients have one or more fears including anxiety, stress, low pain threshold and past unpleasant dental experiences. Patients who have extensive dental treatment plans such as multiple implants, root canals, periodontal, and oral surgical procedures can also be treated by and benefit from anesthesia.
Anesthesia in the Dental Office
Dr. Khalaf will bring all the necessary medications and medical equipment to provide safe and quality anesthesia in the dental office.
Dr. Khalaf is equipped with the most advanced computer controlled monitors, infusion pumps, and all the necessary resuscitative drugs and equipment. This will allow Dr. Khalaf to constantly monitor and control the patient’s level of sedation and vital signs.
Anesthesia services provided for dental procedures at the dental office will cost considerably less than the same services provided in a hospital or at an outpatient surgery center.
A cost estimate for anesthesia services will be given prior to treatment.
